There's something about Hubby …

As a lot of peoples keeps asking me about my hubby, (he's kinda lazy to put anything in his profile and I'm too lazy to write about what he's doing. Hehehe...), But I found something he wrote about himself for his MBA application few years back in our PC.

So, For his 'fans' out there (duh..... ), something about Norhisham (my hubby):

I was born Norhisham bin Abdul Mutalib on November 28, 1976 in Alor Star, Kedah. I am the eldest of four. My father teaches engineering at a polytechnic not far from our Alor Star home. My late mother was a staff at the General Hospital. Perhaps the most important influence that has shaped the person I am today is my upbringing in a small town working class family. They always been an important source of support in all of the decisions I have made, and Islam have been my guiding principles in life. Not only do I try to do good for others, but I always push myself to be the best that I can be in all aspects of my life. I saw early the doors and opportunities that a good education can open up; thus, I particularly tried hard to do well in school.

After completed six years of primary education in my neighborhood school, I pursued my secondary education at one of the prestigious school in the country, the Sultan Abdul Hamid College. The alumni comprises of country prominent figures: King, Sultans, two Prime Ministers and thousands more who's who in all disciplines. I am very proud to be part of the history of the great alma-mater. After I did well in my SRP examination, I took an offer for a place in a fully boarding prep school, the infamous MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in the neighboring state of Perlis. I completed my high school there and obtain flying colors in my SPM examination.

Another important experience that has had a large influence on me the past few years has been college. Going from high school to college was a significant change. College totally overhauls my life and broadens my horizon. I went to an all bumiputra prep school, with the same cohort of students in all my classes. Thus, I was exposed little to people very different from myself. College in a foreign land, on the other hand, is full of diversity. I have people of all backgrounds and abilities in my classes, and I have been fortunate enough to meet quite a few of them. This precious experience has made me more tolerant of differences. Furthermore, living, studying and working in another country that totally difference in race, weather, culture, and belief systems, have liberalized my world view.

I obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Widener University in the suburb of Philadelphia back in summer of 1998. While completing my first degree, back home was hit severely by the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis that almost crippled our economy. This leaves me no option but to stay there and try to get a job. I was lucky to join the world best Wharton Business School as a research assistant. My task there was to assist The Family Business Corporation researchers in studying businesses in Latin America. The environment shaped me a lot and this also develops my fondness in business studies.

I left the "city that loves me back" and started the new millennium here. I then worked as the Project Engineer in charging of telecommunication in the Maju Junction project development. The pride is still there every time I pass through the building in the downtown of KL, my first monument of achievements. In 2001, I joined Affiliate Company of multinationals Nettest and Symmetricom brands, as a System Engineer, where I developed myself to become expertise in test gears and synchronization.

On the journey through my life, I've encountered twists and turns, and some detours--it is unquestionably the hardest battle I could fight. However, in the process, I've accumulated a tremendous amount of valuable experience and knowledge. Education and experience is my biggest asset. It is the perfect time for me to join the UiTM's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. I strongly believe that this can be used to prepare myself for the promises and challenges of the future.

Aurora: This autobiography was written part of the requirement for admission to the UiTM's MBA program. Hubby was accepted and enrolled in 2006. He graduated …. (hmmm…. but I 'm not sure his pointer.... I'll ask him later.) in April 2008. In the midst of pursuing his MBA, he accepted an offer to be a partner for a boutique telecommunications solutions provider. As for now, he is still finding answer to a question: "what's next to do?"( I told him we should move first before he find more things to do....hahahaha)

The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by J. D. Salinger. First published in the United States in 1951.

Trivia: Try to count how many names/characters mentioned in the book, direct or indirect. Popular for the novel with the most characters, almost or more than 200 people. I did try once, but never finish!

1. Not allowed to be filmed. Even Spielberg did try request once but denied!

2. The guy who shot John Lennon asked for his autograph earlier in commotion in front of Lennon's apartment. On the inside cover or first page of this book!

1. Mark David Chapman, who assassinated John Lennon, was carrying the book when he was arrested immediately after the murder and referred to it in his statement to police shortly thereafter.

2. John Hinckley, Jr., who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981, was also reported to have been obsessed with the book.

3. Robert John Bardo, who murdered Rebecca Schaeffer, was carrying the book when he visited Schaeffer's apartment in Hollywood on July 18, 1989. After Bardo murdered Rebecca Schaeffer, he went to an alley to throw away a paper bag, his bloodsoaked shirt and the book. The next day, he was arrested in Tucson, Arizona for the murder of Rebecca Schaeffer. Bardo later flew back to Los Angeles awaiting the murder trial. He was convicted of murder and received a life sentence in prison.

Berdasarkan pemerhatian sepanjang mesyuarat cawangan-cawangan ...

1. DILARANG BERCAKAP-CAKAP SEMASA KHATIB MEMBACA KHUTBAH

Setiap hari Jumaat, kita sering dimaklumkan dengan peringatan di atas. Tetapi masjid tidak pernah sunyi dan diam sepanjang masa khutbah dibacakan! Masih terdapat di kalangan kita yg tetap menyambung perbualan dan tidak memberi perhatian langsung kepada khutbah yang disampaikan.

Tetapi senario ketika mesyuarat dan persidangan amatlah berbeza. Ketika disuruh bercakap kita diam membisu (tak semua)! Lepas tu ada pulak yang berkata: "Tujuan saya nak bertanding ni sebab masa masyuarat bahagian saya tak boleh bercakap! Cakap saja kena hentam!". Pemerhatian saya, calon-calon mesti mampu untuk berhujah, kalau 'point' tak strong, mesti kena hentam. kalau tak mampu berhujah dan mempertahankan pendapat, tak payah pegang jawatan!Pendapat kita pun tak semestinya semua betul. Kena juga belajar terima pendapat orang. Kadang-kadang sedih tengok gelagat orang kita.

2. Kesetiaan kepada RAJA dan NEGARA!

Ini prinsip rukun negara yang kedua; yang pertama Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan... "IN GOD WE TRUST."Greenbacks ataupun Dollar Amerika mengabadikan perkataan ini pada setiap not keluarannya.Saya ingin mempersoalkan, dalam prinsip rukun negara yang kedua ini, RAJA dan NEGARA mana yang kita setia? Boleh dikatakan kesetiaan ahli UMNO hanya kepada SPB Agong yang Pertama sahaja iaitu Tuanku Abdul Rahman dari Negeri Sembilan, yang potretnya diabadikan pada matawang kita dan NEGARA yang kita setia hanyalah Bank "NEGARA" Malaysia, yang juga tertulis pada not-not kertas kita! Betul atau tidak?
Asyik-asyik isu yang timbul duit, itu duit, ini duit, dah tak ada isu lain ke? Saya pun perlukan duit, nak kata tak cinta duit tu tipulah. Tapi tak kan lah kita hanya berpaksikan duit? Duit bukan raja lagi dah, boleh dikatakan dah jadi macam berhala, alat ciptaan manusia yang disembah. Terpesong akidah! Kalau macam inilah perjuangan kita, tak lama lagi hancurlah.

3. MASYUKKKKK

Orang kita kalau makan cari kedai yang ada tanda halal, kalau ada isu makanan tercemar dengan babi, kita la yang mengamuk dulu.

Tetapi dalam musim pemilihan ni, elaboration dari perkara no. 2 di atas, semua org bercerita tentang masyuk. Siap ada pengerusi tetap yang cakap, kepada perwakilan yang terpilih tu, kalau masyuk jgn lupa Pengerusi tetap!

'Masyuk' ni halal ke haram? Ikhlas betul ke org yg nak bagi ni? Ada yg kata, masa ni lah kita nak pau calon. very thin line utk dibincangkan. Tetapi kalau kita ambik duit utk menyalahgunakan sesuatu atau mengubah keputusan, atau ayat mudah 'KENA BELI'. Confirm haram!

HARAM tu sama la level nya dengan daging BABI! Ubahlah nama jadi Bacon ker, HAM & CHEESE ke, Babyback Grill (tulang belakang anak babi yang dipanggang), McRibs (rusuk anak babi berperisa BBQ yg dihidangkan oleh McDonalds), Pepperoni (di malaysia beef or chicken pepperoni, di luar negara confirm ada babi!), ataupun nama-nama lain, masih tetap BABI.

Renung-renungkan lah MASYUKKKK kita tu semula!

Itulah benda-benda yang menerjah minda saya. Saya bukanlah yang terbaik, tapi apa yang saya perhatikan dan fikirkan tersangatlah basic. Kalau salah saya mohon maaf bebanyak.

The Power of Brain

Saya suka berfikir tetapi bukannya seorang ahli fikir, dan saya sendiri kagum dengan kemampuan akal dan imaginasi yang Allah SWT anugerahkan kepada semua manusia, kita mampu berada di dalam satu dimensi lain yang hanya kita sendiri mampu gambarkan.

Kalau sesiapa yang pernah menonton filem "Conspiracy Theory" lakonan Mel Gibson pasti akan come across satu adegan yang watak Mel Gibson tidak senang duduk kalau tiada salinan buku "Catcher in the Rye". Secara realiti buku karya J.D. Salinger ini telah mencetuskan satu fenomena yang unik dalam dunia penulisan dan diulang cetak berkali-kali dan telah dijual melebihi 65 juta naskah.

Saya bukannya hendak melakukan 'book review' tetapi ada satu fakta menarik tentang buku ini. Ia tidak dibenarkan sama sekali diadaptasikan dan diangkat menjadi sebuah filem, bukan oleh penulisnya tetapi dari para pembaca. Pembaca di seluruh dunia tidak mahu 'bayangan' watak-watak dan suasana dalam buku ini diterjemahkan. Mereka lebih selesa dengan mengimaginasikan semua ini di dalam minda mereka, and they do not want the film spoil whatever that they have and imagine about the book.

Itulah contoh 'kuasa' keramat akal dan minda kita yang dianugerahkan oleh Allah. Walaupun akal manusia mempunyai limitasi, contohnya, cuba bayangkan wajah Rasulullah SAW, saya gerenti, tak akan boleh punya!

Tetapi akal adalah satu nikmat yang patut kita hargai dan perlu untuk ditajamkan pada setiap masa dan perlu dibimbing dengan pengisian kerohanian dan agama.

Voice of "Sinners"

Yesterday was the Bar Council’s forum to discuss on the conversion to and from Islam. Basically, it would touch the matter from a constitutional aspect of the matter. The forum which started at 9.00am was ‘forcefully’ stopped one hour later. This was due to the growing number of protesters camping outside the Bar’s building. The consortia of protesters were a combination of several Muslims organizations which furiously protested the forum. For safety reasons, the police advised the organizer to stop the forum. Several leaders condemned the said forum as being seditious and a ‘threat’ to national harmony; a façade to degrade the Islam image. If that is the intention, then I think the Muslim protestor had successfully ‘assisted’ in carrying out the objective. The image of Muslims parading banners, chanting angrily outside the building is a perfect photo for front page of western newspapers. Rather than sending representative in that forum, they decided to take it to the street to voice out their anger. I wonder where are the Muslim lawyers in the Bar had gone? Though I may not be agreeable with what the content of the forum, but I would say that the Bar has every right to discuss any matters pertaining to that issue. The Bar consists of multi racial, religion, and being diverse in its membership. As I said earlier, Muslim member of the Bar can explain the matter during the forum. The result of the forum will not consign as papal bull but merely a discussion relating to the social issues. Even if a resolution is made at the end of the forum, isn’t there any Muslim intelligentsia who can offer a ‘counter’ argument. Perhaps that is the problem; there is no intelligentsia in Muslim community.Since when matter pertaining to Islam cannot be openly discuss by ‘non Muslim? It is hard to find a modicum of intelligent explanation to justify the said rationale.I am not going to pretend to be naïve of the casus belli that lead to this situation. Several ‘controversial’ court cases had engendered the ‘uneasy’ feeling in the society. Some quarters are just playing with this issue to advance their agenda.However, I am perplexed with the way the Muslim responded to the issue. Rather that intelligently explain the issue, the Muslim resorted to street protest, threat of Sedition Act, ISA and other host of other statutory provisions. If the issue is conversion from religion to another, then stick to that issue. Why should we cloud our mind with anger? I wonder for how long Muslim in this country should hide behind the sham ‘constitutional’ argument. As a Muslim, I may be expected to condemn the forum which I profusely didn’t. One may label me as perfidious albion which should be condemn as well. If that is the position, then as the title may suggest, this is one the voice of ‘sinners’.

Aurora: I agree with the writer. Where are all the Muslims lawyers in the Bar Counsil? We should be able to discuss the matter in a rational way. I believed there will be the answer to any questions if we are willing to really discuss about it no what the issues. To all Muslims lawyers, please do step forward in this matter.
